im having surgery for a thryoid nodule. How much pain can i expect?

It really depends. Most patients have a decent amount of pain for the first 48 hours following surgery. I, on the other hand, have a high threshhold for pain, but had an allergic reaction to the stitches which made my thyroidectomy more painful that either one of my c-sections.

    It shouldn’t be that bad.

They will give you some pain killers before and after the surgery.

It doesn’t have a long recover time.

    You will be just fine.

I had this same surgery in 2000. I was 25 @ the time. Pain was minimal and I do NOT have a high pain threshold (i.e. I’m a wimp) I was nervous that I would not be able to eat or talk, but I healed VERY quickly. My incision was closed with staples & I was terrified that I would have to wear turtlenecks for the rest of my life BUT it has healed beautifully! You can barely even see the scar. Apply vitamin E if/when your Dr. says it’s OK. Now I take synthroid everyday. Take your medicine EVERYDAY @ the same time. Good luck & don’t worry!
