What do you think untreated diabetes and hypothyroidism for 10 years could do to you?

How long after treatment do you think a person would feel in good health again?
I’m on meds, now, after 10 yrs. of not knowing.

im surprised youre still alive and kicking both of those can cause serious problems in your body leading to death. i am a type 1 diabetic, once you get your sugars under control for a couple of weeks that part of it should feel better, i am also hypothyroid, ive had that for a year or so and i cant believe you let the symptoms go for that long, once you start the thyroid replacement meds it takes 4-6weeks for you to start feeling better assuming they have the dose right, thats basically a hit or miss thing, they give you a smaller dose and work their way up according to the labs they should be doing every 6 weeks, you wont start to feel better until they get the dose right, when they do have it right though it should be 4 to 6 weeks that you start to feel better but for all of the hypothyroid symptoms to go away it could take up to a year after you get your dose right

type 1 diabetes is usually life long. it means ur pancreas is not making insulin hence u will need treatment for life. if ur newly diagnosed type 2, it may be possible with lifestyle changes to avoid lifelong medication. as for hypothyroidism, r u taking medication?
probably synthroid. hypothyroidism is a condition in which ur body is lacking in thyroid hormone. the hormone is responsible for ur metabolism as well as many other functions. depending on the cause of ur condition, u may be on the medication for life also.

I’m no doctor, but I think you are lucky because most people don’t live that long having untreated diabetes.

Well, as for the diabetes it’s not just the medication you take, its the lifestyle you live that will get you feeling and being healthier. You really need to know the theory behind diabetes like how your insulin pills or injections work, carbohydrate and sugar control, meal planning, exercise regimens, what to do when you become hyper or hypoglycemic. It’s a tough tough sh*tty disease, but committing to it will give you the best results. Also, with diabetes there will always be some bad days but you can get through it!

Seeing a nutritionist can do wonders if your confused on how to eat as now being a diabetic and having hypothyroidism.

Best wishes to you and take care.

Seeing as you are referring to type two diabetes (which can go for years without being diagnosed), you probably have put some strain on your body. Blood sugars over 10mmol/L or 180 (in the states) does permanent damage to your body but if you start taking care of your blood sugars now you can prevent any more damage.

Think of it as a cup where every time you are over 10mmol/L a little bit of water is added. When the cup overflows is when you see kidney failure, blindness ect. In your case the cup is part of the way filled.

Are you making the point to exercise (even a 30 minute walk every day) and limiting your carbohydrates? Are you testing your blood sugars regularly and getting a A1C test done every 3-6 months? Medication is just one part of what you need to be doing.
