Looking around some common recommendations for hypothyroidism are

1) regular exercise - 30 -60minutes a day daily
2) high vitamin B food sources
3) 2 10-15 minute sun exposure per day
4) methods of destressing - mediation/breathing

If you have been diagnosed with a hypothyroid, you should follow your doctor's advice and also listen to your body to determine what is best for you. Depending on the severity of your hypothyroidism you may NEED the medication. If you can alleviate the symptoms that might be beneficial.
References :
http://www.thyroid.org/

Your use of the word "medication" suggests you may misunderstand the treatment, which is normally simply taking enough thyroid hormone to replace what your gland is no longer capable of producing. Nothing could be more straightforward.
