Almost all of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism can be corrected with anti-thyroid medications. Most people with hyperthyroidisim are treated with radioactive iodine and not with long term anti-thyroid medications. Anti-thyroid medications (e.g. Propylthiouracil) are usually used temporarily until more definitive therapy (e.g. radioactive iodine) can be performed. Radioactive iodine and anti-thyroid medications do reverse most of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Grave’s disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and is associated with bulging of the eyes (exophthalmos.) The eye abnormalities associated with Grave’s disease do not change with the anti-thyroid medications and can potentially worsen with radioactive iodine therapy.

Thyroidism is one of the major prevailing diseases. It has been estimated that nearly 87.25% of the world’s population is in some problem with their thyroid glands. The ignorance and lack of knowledge about the importance of the thyroid glands have led to such effect.

The popular junk foods and the creamy ice creams are always attractive to the younger generation and sometimes to the elderly generation too. This attraction is the main cause to the change of food habits and gradually to the sickening of health. There are many types of remedies available for different types of thyroid problems one faces
Thyroidism:
This condition occurs when one of your hormones miss’s and you lack the functionality given by the missing hormone. Treating the thyroid will involve replacing or restoring the hormone that is missing and allowing the proper functionality of the thyroid gland. There are two types of preparations available to cure this, T4, T3 and T4 is usually used during the initial stages. T3 is used when the patient is in the advanced stage. The T3 is used to immediately replace the hormone and start gaining the functionality.
Thyroidism generally occurs when the hormones secrete above their normal levels and this might have adverse effects on the body. To control this, there are many remedies available. These remedies will suppress the secretion of the hormones. There are different methods for treating the thyroid like the anti-thyroid drugs, radioactive, and surgical proceedures. For the radioactive remedy, radioactive iodine is used. The surgical method is used rarely, and they remove the parts that secrete excessive hormones.
Cancer in the thyroid glands:
Cancer in the thyroid glands is considered the most serious problems in the thyroid glands. There are three methods to remove these cancer cells from the thyroid glands. One can remove it using surgery or through lymph node dissection. In surgery the cancer-affected cells are alone removed and in the lymph node dissection the affected part is removed.
Autoimmune thyroid disease:
This could be cured by reducing the amounts of antibodies in your body. The thyroid glands secrete the anti-bodies in large amounts and this could be reduced by removing these excessive secretions.
Goiter:
Goiter is the most common form of the problems in the thyroid glands. The thyroid glands get inflamed and this could be controlled at the early stage. If the person has already gone through the inflammation then surgery would be the only help.

Do people with subclinical hyperthyroidism have symptoms? If not, do they need to seek treatment?
I got a result of low TSH but normal free T3 and T4….I am a bit uncertain about what the low TSH means and whether treatment is necessary. I mean, if my T3 and T4 are normal, then my thyroid hormones are not elevated, correct? So technically I do not have hyperthyroidism, not should I have symptoms….right?
TSH is a "release" hormone produced by the anterior pituitary and stimulates your thyroid glands to make T3 and T4. A low TSH value simply implies that there is a low production of thyroid stimulating hormone by the pituitary and not a problem with your thyroid itself. Now, unless their are other symptoms which are a cause for concern, then I doubt it should be a problem.
Are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism constant and might I have it?
I occasionally get diarrhea from having too much sun and I usually get diarrhea a lot in the winter. I have anxiety attacks, which may cause some of the diarrhea since I am always nervous. I sweat a real lot when I’m working out or even just somewhere hot. My skin is still normal. I always have swollen glands in my throat from when I had mono last year but none by the base. I don’t have difficulty swallowing or breathing. And there are long stretches of time where I go with out diarrhea or anxiety. So can this be hyperthyroidism or no, since the symptoms aren’t always constant?
Hyperthyroidism, once you have it pretty much stays with you…sorry.
I am Hypothyroid and have to stay on medication the rest of my life because if I don’t, it will affect my heart.
My symptoms are: swollen glands in the neck, dry skin, weight gain, feeling tired, anxious, and constipated.
You need to see a Dr. and have a blood draw done to test for thyroid disorder and get on treatment right away if you need it. Not treating it can lead to other disorders. Many people live for years and years even though not treated however as they have no clue what is going on. It’s just a good idea, if you are not feeling well to get tested. With your symptoms being on and off, it probably isn’t thyroid.
Best wishes to you that this is just something temporary going on and not a thyroid problem.

Does everyone lose weight with hyperthyroidism?
I got blood tests done at the doctor twice, and apparently my thyroid is hyperactive. I looked up the symptoms online, and one of them is weightloss. I haven’t lost weight, in fact I feel like I have been gaining weight. So what does this mean?
No. Weight loss with hyperthyroidism is a stereotype. Only about 50% of the people with hyperthyroidism lose weight.
So did you doctor who ran this test give you a diagnosis??? Did he get you into treatment?????
Diagnostic Criteria : Other Types of Anxiety Disorders which are confined must be Ruled Out
Diagnostic Criteria : Other Types of Anxiety Disorders which are confined must be Ruled Out
http://www.MeTheDoctor.com/anxiety.htm
In order for a diagnosis of “GAD” or “general anxiety disorder” to be made, other types of anxiety disorders may be present, however, it must be determined whether or not they coexist with GAD or are the sole cause of the anxiety on their own.
For instance, with the condition known as “OCD” or “obsessive compulsive disorder”, the symptoms may mimic that of “GAD”, but the diagnosis made would be that of “OCD” and not “GAD”.
The physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety must also cause a significant impairment of normal activities including those at home, work, or social activities to meet the criterion for an anxiety disorder.
Finally, any psychological effects that are caused by other conditions or disturbances must be ruled out.
These include that of substance abuse which can cause symptoms of anxiety such as illicit drugs, alcohol, or medications, other medical conditions such as hyperthyroidism, or prescribed medications.
An anxiety disorder must be ruled out as well when the symptoms only occur during episodes of other mental illnesses such as a psychotic disorder, mood disorder, or the condition of a pervasive developmental disorder.
